How To Rank Your Blog Post In Google

1. Write SEO-Friendly Content

In my previous post, I have written on how to write a blog post for your blog. You can implement the tactics mentioned in that article. You can use SEO tools like Yoast SEO to analyze your blog post.

Some of the best steps to write a SEO friendly Content are:

  • Use H1 tag in the Title of your blog post
  • Meta description
  • Subheadings (H2, H3)
  • Post URL
  • Image alt descriptions

Avoid Copying other content and try to cover points that are missing in other bloggers. I personally don’t believe in the length of your content. Even a 500 word article also rank well in search engines.Everything depends on the quality and structure of your blog post.

2. Keyword Research

Do keyword research before writing a blog post and make use of keywords on your blog posts. You can also use Subheadings and bullet points to make your article more SEO friendly.

For Keyword research you can use tools Like SEMRush. This is a great tool that helps you to write SEO friendly content along with Keyword research.

Backlinks plays a great role in ranking a blog posts on search engines. There are various types of strategies that help you to create quality backlinks.

Guest posting is also one of the best and genuine ways to build quality backlinks. You can choose a relevant blog and submit a quality post their to get quality and authority links.

Another link building method is to uses infographics. With this method, instead of publishing an infographic and begging other people to share it, you’re pushing them to release it on their site in exchange for unique content.

You can also use broken link building techniques. Here you research a blog post and find that some links are broken or invalid. You can contact the blog owner and tell them about the broken link and suggest a relevant post of yours.

The skyscraper technique is a popular and effective method. It is introduced by Brian Dean, to improve search rankings and boost the relevance of your website.

4. Image Optimization

Make sure that the images on your blog posts have file names that include the target keyword.

You can also use your target keyword should be part of your image’s Alt Text. It will improve optimization for your article and also create a clearer picture for the search engines to the relevancy of your article/page.

Images are an important component of any website as they make pages visually attractive as well as informative. Optimizing your images should naturally boost your ranking. Also, your image will get a high rank in Google image search

5. Boost Up your Page Loading speed

It is now confirmed by Google that along with 200+ ranking factors , page loading speed always plays a great role in search engine rankings.

If your site is loading slowly then you should work on it. Generally, the main culprit behind slow page loading is poor and cheap web hosting. I recommend choosing a reliable web hosting company like HostGator.

Page Loading Speed

Make sure that you are using fewer ads, javascript, and CSS on your blog. Using too many plugins on your blog can also hamper your page loading speed. I also suggest you use a cache plugin like WProcket.

6. Interlink Your Blog posts

Internal linking plays a great role in decreasing a website’s bounce rate and optimization as it links to the different pages of a domain together. It will spread the link juice and help users to stay longer on your blog and also increases the dwell time. Along with that, It also improves the navigational experience for the user.

Bounce rate is calculated by how many users visit only one page and then leave the entrance page. Easy and accessible internal linking will naturally decrease this as users will be directed to other relevant articles.

Also, Google bots are designed to emulate user behavioral patterns and evaluate your website. A smart and efficient network of links on the pages help crawlers find regions which are not frequently visited by the users, thus boosting your site’s ranking.

Keep in mind that, you don’t overdo it. I recommend to  link to 2-4 older posts whenever you publish a new one.

7. Promote on Social Media Sites

A social networking site plays a great role in promoting your blog posts. Keep a habit of sharing your posts on social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, etc.

Social Media Sites

Since social media sites do not have direct influence on SEO and ranking a website but a strong social signal definitely help search engines like Google to give weight to your content.

Add a social share buttons on your blog posts so that users can easily share your posts on their social networking sites.

8. Update your Old articles

This is very important. Many newbie bloggers don’t focus on this. You need to update your older content with fresh and new information. It will help to rank well and also sustain the ranking if you have.

Check your older blog posts and if you found some posts which need to be updated, just do it.

Conclusion

You cannot rank your blog post overnight. It will take time. Gradually when your blog authority grows you will start seeing your ranking hiked in search engines. These are some of the proven steps that help you understand how to rank your blog post in Google.

I am sure that this article makes you realize that, even if you’re not the best writer in the room, if you follow a process you will see your blog posts on page one and even the number one spot on Google.

  1. Hi Vishwajeet, updating old content is a great way to improve your rankings. I updated over 200 posts last year in January alone. It was a big job but worth it. I need to do it again for 2021 as I do some here and there. Sometimes, if it’s a major update I put it back on the front page, but if it’s a smaller update I don’t. My dates reflect any updates I do as well. There is nothing worse than landing on a page after a search to see it is outdated information.
Thanks for the tips Vishwajeet and have a great day!
